Beef Stroganoff is one of my favorite round steak recipes.
This simple but delicious recipe is from a Navy wives cookbook from the 1970's with amazing recipes from around the world that my Aunt Bonnie gave to my Grandma Nolan.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb round steak cut into thin strips (if you cut it when partially frozen it is easier)
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sweet onion - chopped
- 1 clove garlic - minced
- 8 oz sliced mushrooms
- 12 oz beef broth
- salt & pepper to taste
- 1 cup sour cream
Directions:
- Cut round steak into thin strips & dust with flour.
- In a large skillet, brown the meat in butter.
- Add mushrooms, onion & garlic - brown lightly.
- Stir in beef broth and add salt & pepper.
- Cover & simmer until meat is tender (about 1 hour), stirring now & then to keep from sticking.
- When meat is tender, stir on sour cream & heat over low for 5 minutes
Serve over egg noodles, french fries, mashed potatoes or rice.
